The main reason why a rainbow diet is so nutritious and highly recommended is due to the wide array of nutrients that it provides for the body. Each natural color of plant food provides one or more common nutrients among all plant foods that are primarily that color. There are 5 general color groups for plant foods (blue/purple, orange/yellow, red, green, and white/tan/brown). See the list of fruit (according to color group) below. Blue & Purple - Fruits in this color group are a good source of several nutrients including: vitamin C, fiber, lutein, zeaxanthin, resveratrol, quercetin, flavonoids, and ellagic acid.
