Tropical Fruit

Information About Tropical Fruit and a Tropical Fruit List

A tropical fruit is that which is produced by a tree or plant of tropical origin.  In general sense, the term “tropical” is often used to refer to a climate that is warm to hot, moist year round, and contains lush vegetation.  The tropics (also referred to as the tropical zone and the torrid zone) is a region of the Earth that surrounds the Equator.  The tropical zone includes all areas on the Earth where the sun reaches a point directly overhead at least once a year.  Most tropical areas have two weather seasons, the wet season and the dry season.  Some regions in the tropical zone (such as alpine tundra, snow-capped peaks, and desserts) don’t have a “tropical” climate.   Since most tropical native plants and trees have an intolerance to frost, common tropical fruit need a warm moist climate in order to  grow sufficiently.  Most tropical fruit that is produced for commercial purposes grows in the regions of the tropics that have a warm and moist climate.

Tropical fruit are a good source of many nutrients, with nutrients varying from each type of fruit.  Most tropical fruit are considered to be superfoods due to their nutrition dense nature and unique composition of healing nutrients.
